- Be sure to engage your deadlocks when leaving so if you are broken into the burglars cannot open the doors to allow them an easy exit with your possessions
- Lock all window locks as up to 30% of break ins are through windows.
- If possible, install sensor lighting around your home and this can deter possible intruders when it is dark
- Having an alarm installed is also another option. Just make sure to fit an Energex padlock to the meter box so that the power can not be cut off but the meter reader can still have access
- Security doors and window screens are another great option
- Clear away any tools that are lying around in the yard as they can be used to obtain entry into your home
- Make sure you secure your outside shed so your gardening tools are safe
- Keep all trees and bushes around your property trimmed
- Having a dog can be good for the family and as a deterrent to burglars
- Most importantly – do not leave a spare key in an obvious hiding place
